Who else has stopped going to the gym after the initial New Year resolution back in January? Who never bothered to make the resolution in the first place? Well, you’re not alone, and I’ve got a great excuse for you to use as to why you haven’t bothered to go. THE GYM IS BORING. Who in their right mind would want to stand on the treadmill that’s situated right behind the male cycler who’s sweating buckets and obviously never bothered to put deodorant on before entering the gym.
(Un)fortunately for you all though, I have come up with an idea that will get you back to the fitness level you require simply by making exercise fun! The gym has become this monotonous motion we go through that neither stimulates nor challenges the body, so, naturally, if you’re doing something you enjoy it feels less like a chore.
Here’s some exercise classes you may not have considered:
Ballroom and Latin Dancing
Join a Ballroom and Latin dance class, you won’t regret it I assure you. Ballroom enhances your posture, therefore making you look taller, which in turn makes you hold your stomach in. This works your core muscles without you even knowing r thinking about it. You don’t have worry about keeping yourself up as you have a partner that holds you in position, whilst twirling you gracefully around. The Latin section is a lot more fast paced and works your heart making it an ideal form of exercise. Flick, kick and spin your way to fitness with these forgotten dance classes.
Well! Now we’re getting serious. Have you ever had one of those days where you just want to scream? One of those days where it’ll make you feel better by smashing up all your plates and cups? If you said no, well then you’re lying. Burn off that after work frustration at a boxercise class. Hit and kick the crap out of focus pads and punch bags. Actually, it’s a bit more choreographed than that, but you catch my drift. You still get to release a lot of built up aggression and tension, whilst getting a fabulous workout that works the entire body. Boxercise uses the same concepts used to train professional boxers, so you can rest assured that you’re getting an approved form of exercise. (Bonus: You also learn to protect yourself in this class)
Now I know this is more gym like than the other two, but hear me out. The use of water actually eases the stress that the gym puts onto your muscles. So, in other words, if you’re a wimp like me, lift weights in the water. Aqua fit uses your own body weight against the water forcing you to work to get to where you want to be without putting pressure on your joints and muscles. This makes it the perfect exercise for those that struggle with the intensity of the gym equipment.
So now you have no excuse. Do something that makes you laugh and puts a smile on your face, don’t let exercise become a chore. You’ll appreciate it much more and it will become more beneficial for you.
