Cinnamon Side Effects If Consumed Too Much

The use of cinnamon extends far and goes beyond serving as a favorite seasoning at home for desserts and recipes. Alongside that, this common ingredient has also been used for medicinal purposes for centuries. Even though it is believed to be safe particularly for weight loss purposes, it also has some negative effects worth knowing. Even though cinnamon effects on diet are not properly documented, it has been found that excessive usage of this spicy ingredient may result to adverse health effects to some extent. Here are some of the common cinnamon effects on diet.

One of the common effects of cinnamon is that it causes irritations to the linings of the stomach. Despite cinnamon bark tea being an effective weight loss ingredient, it also has several effects, especially to individuals with ulcers. If consumed in large amounts, cinnamon can be the leading cause for stomach lining irritations. In this regard, it is advisable seeking medical advice before using cinnamon if you are suffering from ulcers.

In addition to that, it is also believed that cinnamon is not good for pregnant women. It significantly inhibits the growth of the infant, something that may eventually lead to health complications if not countered. In this respect, pregnant and nursing women should be cautious when taking cinnamon oils, as the maximum dose has not yet been set.

Besides that, recent research has revealed that cinnamon also has anti-clotting properties. As a result, the use of cinnamon is highly discouraged among individuals on blood thinning medication. Alongside that, it also causes damages to the lungs.

The other major effect of using cinnamon for weight loss purposes is a condition known as oral Erythema Multiforme. This is a condition that is induced by cinnamon consumption, which results in surface alterations. In addition to that, this spice also causes the swelling of lips. Even though these are severe symptoms, they can, however, be contained by limiting or eliminating cinnamon in foods.

Stomatitis is another effect that is largely associated with excess cinnamon consumption. It mostly occurs when cinnamon is consumed in large quantities or from a pre-existing disease where the consumption of cinnamon is highly discouraged.

If not used properly on diet, cinnamon can also have devastating effects that may be toxic to the body. This is because it can shut down the kidney operations in some people who have kidney problems. This may result in the accumulation of toxic substances in the body. It is widely believed that cinnamon can cause the kidney to lose 29% of its functions.

It is quite clear that there are certain effects of cinnamon on diet that are quite risky. However, most of these effects are minor ones and can only become dangerous if cinnamon is taken in large quantities.
