The media worldwide has done splendid job trying to warn people about sugary drinks or drinks what have too many calories in them. This is due to well-known facts that sugary drinks will make you fat and cause obesity.
Recent study showed that coke and other bubbly drinks will also make you stupid! The study was carried out on rats and showed remarkable results. Just after a month and a half of high-fructose diet rats had completely forgotten how to go through the maze they had previously passed tens of times.
On a positive side, another group of rats were also given omega-3 fatty acids and thanks to that they were able to complete the maze a lot quicker after the same 6 week period. So it might just be that omega-3 fatty acids might save your brain if you drink too much sugary drinks.
Back to humans and thanks to the knowledge pretty much everyone has now about the calories in drinks we have started to find alternative drinks with fewer calories in them. So let’s look into those “alternatives” more closely to find out the real truth about energy drinks, coffees and juices.
We can safely say that American have gotten fatter in recent years. The link between the nation getting fatter and soft drinks has been established now by nutrition groups and health advocates. It appears that an average American gets the most of their everyday calories from soft drinks.
So what are the worst culprits we consume every day (all calories are per 1 can of soft drink):
Welch’s Grape Soda
- Calorie Count: 190cal
- Carbohydrates: 51g
- Sugar: 51 grams
- Calorie Count: 165cal
- Carbohydrates: 47g
- Sugar: 47g
Cherry Vanilla Dr. Pepper
- Calorie Count: 150cal
- Carbohydrates: 39g
- Sugar: 39g
American soft drink companies make almost 53 gallons of their products per each American every year. This is per average American, including all ages starting from a baby. If you would like to know how much that is then think about 12 normal buckets or 1 full bath…
So let’s look into some alternative drinks you can consume in order to stop putting on even more weight and maybe even lose some weight instead.
Green Tea – There are countless of green teas on the market but Tava Tea has caught our eye (it can can be found here). One of the main reasons is that it’s a blend of 3 different types of green tea leaves: Wu Long, Green Pu Erh and Green Sencha leaves. The main benefit of drinking green tea is that you don’t get many calories from it, and it increases your metabolism.
Juices – If you decide to replace the cans of soda with another drink then juices can be a fantastic alternative. There are few things you need to bear in mind though. Make sure the glass of juice you are going to have in the morning is the “light” version. By light version we mean that it’s 100% juice and not made out of concentrate. A juice made out of concentrate very often has sugar in it to improve the taste.
Water – Water might not be the tastiest drinks around but it is something our body needs, has 0 calories and 0 grams of fat in it.
So our recommendation would be that if you can’t stop drinking soda then at least replace the normal sugar-filled version with a diet version, or try any of the above healthy drinks.
